The first craft to modernize Special Forces were USMI-built warships. The 41-foot Combatant Craft (CCA) is a low-observability, composite, medium-range craft that offers extended range, payload, and speed over larger special warfare craft such as 11-foot cruisers. The CCA is equipped with a ground search radar, electro-optical/infrared sensors and a small mast with satellite communications. It can also be air-dropped from a C-17 transport aircraft.
Development of CCA began in 2010 and the first boat was delivered in 2013. Full operational capability with 32 CCAs was introduced in 2017.

"We just signed a new [five-year] production contract with the USMI that will add to the [CCA] fleet and replace an aging one," Dolloff said.
Russell said the CCA design is "solid in form, but we're actually working on some big changes, one of which is the CC FLIR II [Combat Forward Looking Infrared II] and a new master that includes new comms." This year, the SOCOM Vigor Works-built Combat Craft (CCM) Mk1 will enter the final production phase of its 82-foot-long Mark V main replacement. CCM was commissioned in 2014 on an open-ended contract. A total of 30 orders have been placed till 2020. Initial operational capacity was achieved in FY 2015, with full operational capacity expected by the end of 2020.
