Sig Tread Ar - We all know Sig Sauer, mainly for their pistols. Their weapon is a completely different beast. For a long time I let their big guns fly under my radar. That is until one of my friends asked me about the Sig Sauer M400 Tread, a pre-built AR-15 designed to introduce gun owners to the platform as well as provide an entry-level price. It has a catchy name and looks a little funky, but is it everything Sig Sauer says it is? Read on to find out.
For the most part, the Tread is a nice looking rifle. I'm still not sure how I feel about a handguard that only has an MLOK slot on the front. The M400 is super modular, so swapping is trivial, but I think it should be included instead of separate. It also doesn't include out-of-the-box sights which is always a disappointment with any company I buy from. The site is an entry level rifle, it should be ready out of the box.

Good news for lefties: The M400 site is fully ambidextrous with a safety, magazine catch and QD points on both sides of the rifle.

I will say that the tread is very accurate out of the box. I threw one of my red dots on it, zeroed it and started hammering as I sat on the bench. Standing up widens the group, but the shot is still easy to throw on target.
To test the longer range, I put on the LPVO and went to work. I got the same results, but apparently shooting my rifle could use some practice at 100 yards. I found that the group is one inch and the change does not include leaflets. Including outliers opens up the shot group to 2-3 inches which I'd say is still pretty solid.
I hesitate to say that Tread is reliable because I am not 100% sure. I have had some damage with some of the cheaper bullets, but high quality brass bullets work well. After a few hundred rounds, the M400 began to run flawlessly regardless of ammo type.
It's also worth mentioning that there are a range of accessories specifically available for the M400 Tread. It's very modular and definitely suits people learning about AR-15s or just using them.
Tfb Review: Sig Sauer's New M400 Tread Pistol The Firearm Blog
The Sig Sauer M400 Tread is a pretty solid rifle. Rights available for less than $800 at the time. The only thing is, it's not that uncommon. It's definitely designed for someone looking to get their first AR-15 at a hefty price tag. It's not perfect, but it's cheap, easy to learn/understand, and effective. At this price, I don't know what more you could ask for. I would personally build my own for the experience and to better learn how my rifle works, but it's not for everyone. And that's where the Sig Sauer M400 Tread comes in.
