The M320 Grade Launcher Module (GLM) is the US Army's designation for a new 40mm disposable launcher system that will replace the M203.

In 2004, the Army announced a requirement for a commercial 40 mm launcher. It had to be more reliable, more ergonomic, more accurate and safer than the M203. The weapon was officially deployed in July 2009 at Fort Bragg by the 82nd Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team.

The M320 has three main parts: a rifled barrel launcher, a day/night sight (DNS) from Insight Technology, Inc., and a handheld laser sight (LRF). Some of the benefits are:
The M320 is based on the earlier Heckler & Koch AG-C, but with some military-specific modifications. Features a folding handguard and shorter barrel for a more compact package. The sights had to be reconfigured to shoot accurately with slightly different ballistics from the shorter barrel length. The system was intended to be lighter than the M203 (it's actually quite a bit heavier) and does not require specific mounting hardware. Loading the breech allows the graduate to load the grenade while keeping the eye on the target.
It weighs 3.57 lb (1.62 kg) in basic configuration, 3.89 lb (1.76 kg) with LRF and electronic sights, and 4.8 lb (2.2 kg) with stock attached.

The sights on the M320 are located on the side of the launcher, avoiding the problems the M203 had with the design of the sight, which was mounted on top of the launcher and could interfere with the rifle's sights, requiring them to be attached separately. This meant that two separate operations had to be performed when adding the firing device to the weapon, and since the sights were not an integral part of the M203, they had to be re-zeroed each time the trigger was reattached to the rifle. The LRF helps eliminate common range estimation errors with shots greater than 100 meters, increasing the probability of hitting with the first round.
The M320 can fire all NATO classes with high explosives, smoke and light. Its bell is tilted to the side, allowing it to fire a variety of new, longer rounds, especially certain non-lethal rounds such as the Federal Labs non-lethal sponge stick (brand name) or the sponge grade.
The M320 operates in double-action mode with a double-sided safety. In the event of a misfire, the M320 operator only has to pull the trigger again. The M203 used a single-action mode that cocked the gun when the barrel was opened. The M203 operator must open the barrel when it is unlocked and push forward to cock the weapon and close the barrel again, pulling the trigger again. The problem is that when opening the barrel, the class is designed to slide out and the operator must make sure that it does not fall to the ground.
