Compact Sig P320 - SIG has many great semi-automatic pistols and the P365 & P320 Compact are two of their most popular for concealed carry!

SIG Sauer has a large line of firearms; long guns, full size guns, compact, sub-compact and micro-compact guns - and they are all fantastically popular.

While SIG models vary from category to category, I have seen many pistol owners and potential buyers weigh the SIG Sauer P365 specifically against the P320 Compact – not to be confused with the XCompact… or the Sub-Compact.

When youareconsideringallyouroptions, itcangetveryconfusing! Within the P365 family you have the P365, SAS, XL and XL Romeo. And then you have the P320 family, including the P320 Full-Size, Carry, Compact, Sub-Compact, M-17, M-18, RX Full Size, RX Compact, Sub Compact with Rail, and more!

With so many SIGs to choose from, I understand why the topic of P320 Compact vs. P365 comes up every so often. Both semi-automatic pistols start with a "P" followed by a number in the 300's, both are designed for concealed carry, and both are available in 9mm.

The most noticeable difference between the two guns is size. While the SIG Sauer Company built both rifles for carry, they approach the subject in drastically different ways.

The P365 is almost pocket pistol size and the P320 Compact is smaller than most service pistols. The P320 Compact comes from the Glock 19-sized school of compact firearm design.

Could The Sig Sauer P320 X Compact Be The Ultimate Carry Gun?

The P365 is lighter by 8 ounces, almost 2 inches shorter, and half an inch thinner. Seeing them side by side is what almost immediately sells you on the differences between the two. If a side-by-side comparison doesn't, it will certainly holster and dress to carry. The P365, by its very nature, is more comfortable to wear.

The P320 Compact is harder to carry but easier to shoot. The larger compact frame gives you more gun to grip, and the more gun you can grip, the better you'll shoot. It also has an M1913 Accessory Rail - which is a big deciding factor for many handgun buyers these days.

If you go the P365 route, you're stuck with 9mm, while the P320 Compact offers 9mm, 40 S&W, and 357 SIG as caliber options.

The larger P320 Compact predictably holds more rounds than the P365, and more rounds are often better than fewer rounds, right? The P365 comes close with its 15-round extended magazine, but the P320 Compact can carry up to 21 rounds.

Sig Sauer P320 Vs. Glock: A Battle For 9mm Gun Supremacy

The P320 Compact has an excellent Picatinny rail that allows you to mount a light, laser or training device. As a fan of weapon mounted lights, the track definitely makes a difference.

The P365 has its own track that only fits certain accessories. As a smaller gun, the size of what you can put it out is somewhat limited.

Which gun should you choose? Well, I can't necessarily answer that question for you, but I can suggest the questions you should ask yourself.

If concealment is the biggest priority, choose the P365. From IWB to Ankle Carry, the P365 beats the competition handily.

If shootability is the biggest priority, choose the P320 Compact. Still easy to carry inside the waist, this winged pistol provides a firmer grip for larger hands.

New to concealed carry? You will probably have more success with the easier to carry P365 in a CrossBreed Reckoning holster.

But if you're looking for a gun that can easily transition from concealed carry to home defense, go with the P320 Compact.

Despite the continued popularity of their metal-frame, hammer-fire 220-series pistols, the polymer pistol market is growing every year, and it was clear that the future could be tough for Sig - especially with law enforcement sales - unless they came up with ' a modern pointed pistol to compete with Glock, Smith & Wesson, and others.

Sig Sauer P 320 Compact And Subcompact Review

So far, the general reception of the P320 series has been positive, but somewhat reserved, thanks to Sig's late entry into the market. I got an early look at the Sig P320 back at SHOT Show 2014 when they first debuted, but I wasn't able to actually fire one until Sig sent me one of this year's new P320 Subcompacts in 9mm to to evaluate. Lucky Gunner Lounge contributor Jim Grant also tried a 9mm P320, but he has the slightly larger compact model. So, we decided to team up for what you might call a "double-blind" first impressions Sig review. We didn't discuss our experiences with the P320s before doing these write-ups, and neither of us read the other's review until both were written. Some of the parallel conclusions we reached may give the impression that we are comparing notes beforehand, but the reviews were written independently.

Compact pistols are the most versatile handguns on the planet. Big enough to hold lots of ammo and small enough to conceal, they are the Swiss Army knives of the firearms world. The problem most of them have is bulk. Concealment takes effort, and the grips are too large for shooters with small hands. Since my concerns fall into both categories, I've never been comfortable wearing one. And that's why I was so excited when I saw the ad for the SIG P320, with its dehorned looks and ridiculous amounts of customizability.

Other guns in the past that have had interchangeable backstraps have produced less than impressive results. Because they don't allow for a large enough range of sizes to fix the ruined ergonomics of guns whose handles look like 2x4s. So I was pretty skeptical about the interchangeable frames until I held the medium size.

"It fits!" I cried out like the prince in Cinderella and finally found his lost love. I can eject mags, drop the slide and fire the pistol without twisting the gun in my hand. Out of curiosity, I tried the small size, which was not uncomfortable at all. I could easily use the P320 with that smallest grip installed, but found that my support hand would overlap my fire a little too much. Even if it could just be hands reporting a conflict with my previous muscle memory.

So far I have shot about 500 rounds through the rifle, and my impression of the pistol has changed somewhat. At first I thought the trigger was okay, but probably better than a factory Glock trigger. Now, after a solid break-in period, I feel it has one of the best triggers on a polymer frame assault pistol.

Ergonomics aside, the gun has a slightly higher than average bore height which improves the filter recoil. In the 9mm version tested, this is a non-issue – especially if a shooter uses a grip that fits their hands well.

The P320 Compact feels like a cross between a VP9, a Glock 19 and an M&Pc; with the best qualities of all three. The only addition I would like to have available is either a frame that does not include a track dust cover or a track cover for existing. I feel this would make this gun easier to conceal, although a quality holster could do a lot to correct that.

Hip shot verdict: the P320 is on par with or surpasses all major brands of polymer-framed handguns in terms of functionality, usability, and accuracy, and I would argue that it has better ergonomics and trigger pull than the vast majority of its competition. I personally can't think of a muzzleloader pistol with a better trigger, although the latest Century TP9SA and H&K VP9 come in a close second. I wouldn't sell my Glocks to buy the P320, but if I wasn't already invested in Glock pistols, the P320 is a very attractive option.

Since the first P320s hit the market in mid-2014, I've read a few reviews but didn't really have much personal interest in trying one until the subcompact model was released earlier this year. My daily carry gun is a Smith & Wesson M&P compact,
